Cruising the South Pacific

Well here we are almost the end of another year, this year has been full of socials and fun days for all line dancers and hopefully many more to come.

My husband Rob & I have just returned back from our 10 day cruise visiting the South Pacific Islands of Noumea, Lifou, Mystery Island & Port Vila, My favourite was Mystery Island, beautifully coloured & clear waters which were very inviting. Here are some wonderful photos of the trip.

Shoalhaven Country Line Dancers 50's & 60's Theme

Shoalhaven Country Line Dancers had their annual Social weekend on 6th & 7th September (voting day) Friday night was a meet & greet social with requests, we had about 40 people attend it was great to see the number of people who had travelled from all over New South Wales. Lithgow, Sydney, Canberra, Candelo(West of Bega area) good to see you all again girls.
Saturday afternoon workshop was hosted by the charming Maddison Glover who taught 5 dances to suit all levels of dancing which started at 12.30pm and ran to 2.30pm, this was attended by about 60 line dancers, great to see the crowd, all their to learn new dances to teach their classes.
Then the big night, with all our committee & helpers to transform a dull auditorium into something bright & vibrant.

This was a picture taken of the auditorium before the social started, thanks to Rob who always puts in a great effort to impress everyone who enters the hall

Fay & Brian caught in the pink Cadillac

We had our entertainment for the night & Simon Pavitt didn't let us down, singing 2 songs, Music of the Night, You'll never walk Alone, which had everyone on the feet applauding his talented voice.

Maddison also entertained us all with her exciting performance to a fast Rock & Roll song to go with the theme of the night 50's & 60's. I wanted her to do it again because it was so fast and there was so much in the routine, but she declined walking off. Oh well I might get to see it again another time.

The girls put on a great show with our yearly entertainement for the night, which takes us at least 6 months to learn. You all did such a great job, I can't believe we practice for so long for 3 minute dance. But according to a lot of people it looked fantastic, thank you girls for being a part of our show, its much appreciated.
The whole night went extremely well, but I had lost my voice and many thanks to Jenny & Maddison for helping me out on the night and kept things running.
We thank you all for coming along to this annual event and hopefully see you again next year. We will look forward to the next themed party not sure what it will be yet to be announced later in the year.

Ros & Stan 50th Wedding Anniversary

Well the socials just keep on coming, with 2 more for this month of August. Ros & Stan had a fantastic party over 2 nights to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Canberra. We first arrived in Canberra about lunch time did a bit of retail therapy then went back to the motel to get settled and to get ready for the night ahead.

Friday night was a greet & meet and there must have been about 200 people there at least, with linedancers from different states including Queensland having Brett Jenkins visit us, Victoria had about 60 linedancers all in black & Yellow shirts especially made for Ros & Stan's Celebration and lots of linedancers from New South Wales. The whole night was requests only and we checked out numerous dances suitable for our class that looked like a lot of fun.

Saturday morning more retail therapy, so cheap and great stores, wish they would set up in Nowra(we have nothing here). Then off to the workshop with Gordon Elliott to learn some new dances, one was especially choregraphed for Ros & Stan it was a love song and a waltz, very nice. 3 other dances were taught, all suitable for class.

Back to the motel for a bit of R & R and a glass of wine or two, then get ready for the big night. When we arrived their must have been at least 300 people dancing to the great songs that we know so well. Stan put up a great dance program that catered for every level. We didn't know a lot of the dances but the challenge was there and we jumped onto the dance floor and followed who ever we could that knew the dances, hit and miss for some dances but most were fairly easy to follow.

Thanks for a great weekend of fun Ros & Stan and happy 50th Wedding Anniversary. See you at the next social.

Tom Glover August Social

Tom had a wonderful social on the 10th August, starting at 7pm till 12.30am with fantastic  entertainment with Simon Ward & Maddison Glover & Elise (Maddison's competition parter) strutting their stuff. Great program for the night catering to every levels of dancing.

We had 12 ladies & gents come along to enjoy this night, I think they were blown away with the talent of the younger dancers.

It was great to catch up with friends in line dancing that we haven't seen for a while, That's the best part of dancing is the social side to it.

Thanks Tom & Donna and Maddison for a great night happy 20th Birthday celebration of Line Dancing.

Photos to come

Milton Xmas in July

Another beautiful day for a social in Ulladulla, 25 ladies & Rob Richo came along for a fantastic social,  there were lots of dances catering for everyone, great job Yvonne & Bev and this social raised $2,500 for the Life Saving Club in Ulladulla, no one has beaten the supper you girls put out for the social, I missed out on the cheese cake, I was told it was wonderful I will have to be quicker next time.
More photos to come.

June Laurel's Social

What a great evening of dancing we all had at Bomaderry Community Hall with a great dance floor and a set program with requests in between the brackets of dances, the floor being filled most of the time except for the golden oldies that were requested, we can tell the ones that have been dancing a long time. The girls were all noisy as usual which sets everyone of laughing.

There were plenty of lucky door prizes up for grabs, the wine bottles went very quickly. We won't tell anyone who fell outside the door after a couple of glasses, but thankfully they were not injured.

I would like to thank Jeff for being our Security man for the night and my husband Rob who had kicked some of the ladies out of the kitchen and relieved them of their duties in the kitchen.

I hope to get a few photos for these events in June, will post them as soon as they come in.

June Sussex Inlet Social

This month started of slowly but then the social's kicked in again, this time we headed down south to Sussex Inlet to Jenny's Annual Social, Friday night was the meet & greet with requests and the floor was never empty, it was great to see so many travellers for a weekend of social dancing.

Saturday night was a dress up, the theme being any type of "uniform" with many dressed for the occasion, lots of sailors, cops, school kids, nurses & doctors and maids (ooh laa laa) they all looked great and there were many more.

Kate Simpkin joined the group with a mini workshop, she taught two easier dances that were a lot of fun which I taught one already the day after at class. One of Jenny's ladies did a little skit and had everyone in stitches what a great night.

Thanks Jenny for a great night of dancing, look forward to many more.

May Calendar

May was reasonably quiet on the line dance social side, but quite hectic on the Rock & Roll side.

I spent the 2nd weekend of May in Queensland with Leanne, Ben & Madison, she is now 16 months old and running around everywhere, We spent Mother's Day together and Ben took us to a creek where we threw pebbles, Madison loved doing that, then went out for dinner. The week went far to quickly for all of us, Leanne & Madison will be back down to visit us again at the end of June.

The following weekend we had a Burlesque function at the St Georges Basin Country Club, which was quite an eye opener, with Pole Dancers and all sorts of funny looking things from the sex shop, tattoo stalls and us Rock & Rollers doing a few demos, we looked pretty staight compared to the others.  This event took up the whole day, very enjoyable.

Then the next weeked was Canberra, with our first swing lesson with a young couple from the Canberra Swing Cats, they were very flexible showed us a few new moves, this was a 1& 1/2 hour lesson in a very cold hall early Saturday morning. We then visited a few friends for an afternoon cuppa, before heading back to the place we were staying at to get changed into our Rock & Roll gear for the big night.

On Saturday night the social started at 6.30pm starting with a great routine taught by Pip & Dean but the brain was a bit slow and was not taking all the moves in quick enough, must have been that lovely champagne that we had to kick start the night off.

They had a large Brass Band playing some classic songs, I felt like I had gone back in time with the sounds of Glen Miller Band & other great bands from that era. A couple of singers also belted out a few tunes to Ella Fitzgerald Also playing were "The Fuelers" that played Rockabilly/Rock songs, they were fantastic

The next day we had a lovely breakfast at a corner Hotel, then off to the markets, then spent some time at the War Memorial, then our first visit to Cosco that was an amazing place, they sell everything.

June is coming up next with lots of Line dance socials & shows at the Entertainment Centre in Nowra.

March Homebush Social

We had a great time at the Homebush Social, 15 ladies from Shoalhaven Country Line Dancers decided to go this year, hopefully more for next year, there would have been about 700 people at the social enjoying the variety of dances. I picked up a couple of popular dances and have already taught 2 since the Social. The theme was purple and there was lots of different shades of purple and the hall looked great with this colour.
I will post the photos soon.

March

This looks like we are going to be as busy as February.

Starting the month off with a demo at Coastal Waters Nursing Home, We had 10 ladies helping to entertain the elderly, who all seemed to be enjoying the noisy & talented crew we have, thanks girls for coming along.

Then we have the Milton Social celebrating their 15 years of dancing, this is a Hawaiian Theme should be lots of fun, I wish I was going but I have a weekend in Merimbula which has a rock & roll festival, with lots of dance socials & workshops, also showcasing lots of Vintage Cars. Can't wait this will be our first time at this festival. Hopefully have lots of photos to display soon.

We had a fantastic time in Merimbula you could not have asked for better weather. We had socials Friday, Saturday & Sunday Night with a farewell meal. The Fender Benders & Shadoogie were the bands that played over the weekend and Stan the Man kept us entertained at Sapphire Caravan Park, the whole weekend was terrific.

February

Well another month gone to quickly. February was full of socials & parties, looks like March will be much the same.

Early in February we had a BBQ at Maureen & Phil Carter's place to celebrate their first year on the south coast. The party was well attended with a few folk from Sydney including Julie Talbot & Hubby & Margaret & Richard Pacitti with a few of their class members. Majority were from Sussex Inlet Linedancers that Maureen attends these days, also a few Rock & Rollers joined us as well. We had plenty to eat & drink, with a few games thrown in as well, Darts, Boule, Coits.

The following Saturday we joined the Huskisson Bootscooters for a great day of fundraising for Relay for Life and lots of fun dances. It was good to see Maggie & Carole from Coastal Waters we soon had them on the floor doing "I Love A Rainy Night" and a few other dances.

Later on the same day a few of us went to Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre to see the Buddy Holly Show. This was fantastic, the main singer can certainly play a guitar and had a great voice as well. Well worth seeing!!!!!!!

2013 Happy New Year to you all

Hope everyone had a great Xmas & New Year. We have kicked off the New Year going over dances we did last year to get the brain cells working again. There are a lot of dances. In January we taught "Beautiful In My Eyes" Simon Ward's dance which overwelmed everyone with the music & grace of this dance, a definate for every class.

A group of us went to Braidwood early February to learn the dances taught in Tamworth, now we have more fun dances to teach, We stayed overnight at a very nice Motel at the end of the main road, so it was nice & quiet with plenty of room.
