Xmas Social

We are nearing the end of another year of fantastic dancing and great friends with lots of laughs. Hopefully all the beginners have had a wonderful year of learning all those tricky little steps and progressing to the next level of easy intermediate.

Also everyone who have been transferring from Easy Intermediate to Intermediate dances, keep trying, it's always hard to start with, but with ongoing lessons it does get easier, look forward to what dances will be coming up next year

Our Xmas Social is coming up on Saturday the 26th November. The cost is $10 and if you could bring a small plate to share for supper thanks.

Tea & Coffee and Soft drinks will be supplied.

Looking forward to seeing you all there. Thank you for all your support and friendship throughout the year.

Las Vegas & Hawaii

Hi everyone, I have just returned from my holiday and just updating everything.

3 nights in Las Vegas, Arrived midnight to a very luxurious Motel, Marriott Grand Chateau 1 block from the strip, enjoyed lying flat after 15 hours sitting in the plane.

Outside the Bellagio with the Dancing Fountains
One full day walking up & down the Strip and checking out the foyers in the Casinos, so much to see and do here, lots of people, plenty of shops, music in the streets, dancing fountains, I would like to spend another 2 extra days here, so much that we missed seeing.

Helicopter Ride over the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Meir and then a flight over the Strip

The next day a helicopter ride in the morning, then back to the strip for more sightseeing.
Grand Canyon for Champagne Breakfast.
Our last night in Vegas, time for the Broadway Show at Steve Wynn's showstoppers. This was brilliant well worth seeing. The Singers were fantastic and plenty of dancing. Felt that the show was a bit short, an hour and half, for the money that was paid, I expected at least two-two half hours. But it was brilliant!!!!!!

Then off to Hawaii for 12 nights, we stayed at Aston Waikiki Sunset, in a two bedroom apartment which had fantastic views of Diamond Head Crater, we were two blocks from the main street, close to most shops and restaurants and a short walk to the bus stop.

Enjoying the weather in the main street.

We had a great time at Sea Life Park, what wonderful creatures dolphins are so gentle, although I thought their enclosures were quite small especially after being at Qld Sea World,

Interacting with the Dolphins

Then a most strenuous climb up Diamond Head Crater, we did it though climbing 300 steps and a narrow uneven track, my calf muscles were aching the next two days. So much easier coming back down. Some people use it for excercising, they were running up the steps. We did this trip about 10.30am it was quite warm about 29 degrees, better to plan a trip like this about 8.30am when it's not so hot.
Diamon Head Crater looking out over Waikiki Beach
A lovely way to see Waikiki from another angle, lovely food with plenty of entertainment. Whilst eating we had a couple of local singers and then a mix of polynesian dancing including New Zealand, Tonga, Samoan and Hawaiian Dancers. Then after dessert we had a dance with everyone getting up and joining in with a mix of dances like YMCA and other fun dances (I can't remember what we danced to) but we had fun
Off on a Sunset dinner Cruise
Our last activity for Hawaii was the Paradise Cove Luau, fantastic show and heaps to eat, couldn't finish what we were given, the entree was enough, but it was delicious
Paradise Cove Luau

Then in between our activities, it was off to the beach for a bit of R & R not Rock N Roll, Rest and Relaxation, the water was a lovely temperature about 24 degrees, we stayed in the water for about an hour, my fingers were shrivelled up like prunes. We did plenty of shopping on other days, it's always nice looking at all the different shops and quite cheep two.
Waikiki Beach
I love Hawaii, this is my second time, would definately like to come back again. Not sure when this will happen, as we have other holidays planned for 2020 Scotland Wales and Ireland. Time to start saving again.

Dancing With David Hoyn

David Hoyn Social with Hillbilly Rick(USA) Pedro(USA) and Malaysian Instructors

David had his social in May at Dapto. Fantastic venue, with plenty of line dancers from everywhere, just to name a few of David's guests, Alison Johnston from Perth, a couple of Malaysian Instructors, Hillbilly Rick and Pedro from USA.

All Instructors

The Tornados (Aussie Band) kept us on the floor all night, with suggested dances to their songs.
We were taught a few dances by the overseas instructors, Jungle Freak was a popular dance and done as a contra dance. A little confusing at first but after a while we all got the hang of it.

Ian from Toukley Region such a tall man

Our girls enjoyed themselves on the night, having a go at some of the dances they didn't know. But it was nice to sit and watch as some of the Malaysian ladies did their dances, you can tell they love their dancing.

With Pedro (USA) instructor

The girls with Hillbilly Rick (USA) instructor
Thanks David for a great night of fun and entertainment. Let us know when your next social will be on well worth the trip.

Homebush Ball & April Social Fund Raiser

Greenacres Disability Services Fund Raising Social
Our annual fund raising social for Greenacres Disability Services, was well attended this year, a big thank you to everyone that bought along food and helped set up the tables for the afternoon, a big thanks to Janet & Kathy for helping out at the front desk and also my husband Rob who kept the hot food coming and washed up and vacuumed at the end of the social, I wouldn't be able to run the social without your help thank you xx.

We had lots of fun with a set program of dances and requests, to raise extra money, I would not call any tags or restarts for all dances, those that did the dances and forgot the tags or restarts had to put coins in the box for their mistakes, some people put in a few notes before we even started, it was quite funny.

Also a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream in the middle of the floor and you toss $1 coins, the closest to the  bottle wins.

We raised $913 for the fund raiser, which was a great effort on last years total which was about $500 less. So well done everyone.

Homebush Ball

Homebush Ball was fantastic, there were about 600 people that attended and we were lucky to have secured a bus to take us to this venue with our very good driver Neil, who got us back home safe & sound.

As usual the ladies & men that had a go at most dances ticked their favourites and told me I have to teach these dances, so my work is cut out for me for the next couple of months.

We have secured the bus again for next year, and already we have half the bus filled. So many want to experience the Ball, next year will be the 10th year celebrations so this will be extra special.

A couple of weeks before the Ball, we had a group of 10 students from Ros Straw's group come down for a weekend to practice the dances for the Ball, we had a lot of fun nutting out these dances. Thanks for your company, catch you another time.

March

I can't believe we are almost into April, my last post was in November 2015. So much has happened over the last few months.

Since we started back at dancing in January, we have been learning lots of dances for the Homebush Ball coming up in April, one new dance every week, the songs are great and the dances are fun as well.

2016 started off with our first social for Australia Day, with Jenny Landsberry from Sussex Inlet. What a nice way to kick of the year. The social was well attended with everyone hanging out to dance after a long break over Xmas. Lots of laughs and Australia Day door prizes.

February was quiet for socials, but plenty of line dancing and Rock & Roll over the week and weekends. Such a busy life we lead.

March - Bateman's Bay had their social which was a fund raiser, unfortunately I was unable to attend as I was in Merimbula for the weekend with our annual Rock & Roll festival. Hope all went well for you all down there and plenty of money was raised for your charity.

Merimbula Rock & Roll weekend was fantastic, 3 great bands playing great songs and plenty of dancing Friday, Saturday & Sunday night, plenty of raffle prizes and classic cars on show, with Carol winning a trophy for her red Thunderbird and Eddie & Debbie getting a trophy for their FJ Holden. Maybe our Bedford Van might be there next year.

We did a bit of sight seeing during the day visiting Tathra to the north and Eden to the south of Merimbula, such beautiful places, we are so lucky here in Australia.

Totally exhausted we travelled back home on Monday, thanks to all those rockers from Merimbula for putting on such a great weekend.

Easter is next, then the Homebush Ball.

Fill you in on those later.
