Chromefest at The Entrance

Rock & Roll at The Entrance was fantastic this year, perfect weather and heaps of classic cars lining the main street as well as the entire park. Terrific bands keeping everyone in the mood for dancing.

I was lucky enough to travel to The Entrance in a red Thunderbird Convertable left hand drive (which felt very strange) driven by Carol, she also won a prize for her car. It was raining all the way up the coast and lucky I bought a few towels with me as the car was leaking on my feet as well as the window, so I did a lot of mopping up, but we arrived safe and sound which was the main thing.

We stayed in a very nice unit opposite all the action with Ken & Carol, had a few nights out having dinner and enjoyed a dance or two at some of the clubs. It's funny how your feet don't do very well after a couple of drinks, but all fun just the same.

If you have never experienced Chromefest I would recommend it, it's one of the best in NSW and not too far away. Plenty of market stalls with lots of Rock & Roll nick nacks, plenty of dancing and  plenty of cars, well worth the trip.

Thanks Carol & Ken for your company, lots of fun. Photos later

October Socials

Milton Bootscooters Social
Bev Andriskie from Milton Bootscooters had a very special party celerbrating her 15 years of Line Dance Instructing, the party started at 10am until 5pm, there was a lot of food - morning tea, lunch, then afternoon tea all cooked by Bev's daughter, fantastic job and a great cook.

The hall was packed with dancers and friends that used to line dance at Bev's class. From 2pm -5pm lots of dancing. Thanks Bev for a great social. Photos a bit later.

Ulladulla Bootscooters Social
Helen Reeson also had a social raising money for Diabetic Children. The theme was Faeries & Fantasy, I must say everyone went to a lot of effort with their outfits.

Not only was it colourful but extremely funny especially Jenny Landsberry turning up in a Mini Mouse outfit with a very long and bouncing tail, which made it hard for her to dance, a few dressed in Mickey Mouse outfits and plenty of faeries and witches.

Lots of fun was had by all and raised $2000 great effort everyone.

Photos to come a bit later.

Roaring 20's Social

Our annual September Roaring 20's theme social was enjoyed by many visitors from all over New South Wales. All line dance instructors took a bracket of dances which lightens the load from me. Thank you to all instructors involved.

Rosalie Mackay was the guest instructor, and she choreographed some lovely dances with great country songs, just like the old days.
Rosalie Mackay & her group of ladies and Laurel
Everyone got into the swing of things and dressed up in beautiful outfits, there were plenty of flappers and gangsters and it was all very colourful.
Everyone enjoying the afternoon social
Rob Slater (my husband) did another fantastic job on the stage props. Bright and colourful, adds a lot of fun for the social. Simon Pavitt (my nephew) did the sound and lighting for the afternoon and had pops of coloured spot lights flashing all over the stage. Terrific job well done thanks Simon.
Stage props for our Roaring 20's social 2015
The Entertainment for the afternoon was D'Ban Jac and The Shoalhaven Shufflers, they all put on a brilliant show with singing and dancing that wowed the crowd. Thank you to all involved in the entertainment.

Thanks to all that travelled long distances, your support for our social is greatly appreciated and money raised from this social goes to local charities in the area.

I would like to thank all our committee and members that helped get the auditorium looking just brilliant with decorated tables and tea and coffee and cakes, The social would not be as good without your help so thank you very much for your input into making this a spectacular social.

Next year The Shoalhaven Country Line Dancers will be celebrating 20 years of dancing, the social will be on the 9th and 10th September, so please jot these dates down on your calendar.

The theme of the social is yet to be discussed, as soon as the flyers are done, I will send them out to everyone.

Maddison Glover's 21st Birthday

What a fantastic 21st Birthday party for Maddison Glover, this was held at the old favourite venue Yallah Woolshed, a lot of construction work is still being carried out on the shed, but the dance floor was terrific to dance on.

Maddison invited a lot of instructors from all over Australia to join in with the celebrations and many family and friends from the line dancing world.

Maddison also had lots of Birthday wishes from instructors and friends from different countries.

I didn't think that I would be attending a 21st Birthday celebration at my age, but it is a nice change.

Canberra Weekend

Here we are again braving the winter chills in Canberra, 4 of us travelled on Friday, so we could do a bit of shopping before the Friday night social.
The social was a night with requests, it was a lot of fun, with plenty of dances, the ones we didn't know gave us the opportunity to catch up with some old friends and also meet new friends.

Jenny, Muriel and Myself in the apartment next to the Italian club
At Lunch time we had the workshop with Maddison Glover, she taught 6 dances, my head was spinning after 5 dances, so I watched the last dance which looked like a lot of fun.
The girls all ready for our big night out
The other 4 girls turned up whilst we were at the workshop and did a bit of shopping, then we all went back to the apartment for a rest and a nice drink, then it was time to dress for the big night.
Another shot of the girls before the big night social
Barry certainly knows how to have a great social, with entertainment, plenty of dancing and lots of laughs.
Barry's grandson did a great job singing a few songs for us, he is so young and has a great future. Maddison Glover did a solo number which blew everyone away, her feet were going a hundred miles an hour and danced with a lot of flare, just beautiful.
The girls having a great time, playing up for the camera
This shot of the girls shows that we also make our own fun. Thanks for a great weekend of dancing and fun Barry. Look forward to the next social.

Berry Demo in July

A Big thanks to all the girls that came along from different classes to entertain the residents at the Berry Bupa Nursing Home, we danced for about 1 hour and a few residents joined
in to have a waltz or a jig on the dance floor.
The residents love the music, so it was lovely to see them smiling, singing and clapping along to their favourite songs.

July Socials

Well July has been full with socials every Saturday.

Batemans Bay Stampede
The first was Batemans Bay Stampede, always heaps of fun, Muriel, Brenda E, Lola, Margaret, Jenny and Myself attended this function.  It was great to catch up with Jo & Dave Lake and friends from all over the place. The theme was anything that started with the letter "S" so there were some interesting outfits, such as Sailors, Snow White, Sunflower and many others.

This event was raising money for "Muddy Puddles" and raised quite a bit of money in that afternoon.

Look forward to the next social.

Sussex Inlet Social
The next social was at Sussex Inlet, Jenny certainly knows how to put on a great social. We were entertained by Jenny & Margaret in their beautiful skirts dancing Girl Crush and showing the audience that had not seen competition dances just how it's done, it looked beautiful girls, great dance.

Also Johnathon and Elise entertained everyone with their two stepping around the dance floor and a rock and roll number, looked fabulous. These two always take out golds & silver medals in the comps they attend.

The theme was Red & Black, the hall look stunning with these colours. We had about 22 of our ladies and Rob attended this social. This event was a fund raiser as well, raising money for the Daniel Morcombe Funds and everyone was happy to part with their money on this afternoon.
A great program Jenny, the floor was full all of the time.

Ulladulla Social
Helen Reeson put on a fantastic social to raise money for Charity "Relay For Life" This was well attended with lots of Raffle Prizes and lucky door prizes, Great fun with Helen's crew, they love to dress up, with the theme being Pink & Purple, some crazy outfits worn, lucky they didn't have to go into a club ha ha ha.

A great time was had by all and trying some new dances is always fun. The freezing weather kept a few from attending that would normally be there, never mind Helen is having another dress up social in October the 31st with the theme being Magical or Fantasy. Looking forward to that one.

Holiday in Queensland

That time of the year when everyone heads north for winter, we picked the best 3 weeks for our trip to sunny Queensland, we heard it had been raining heavy in Jervis Bay, whilst travelling north it was bright sunshine where ever we went.

We spent 2 weeks with Leanne, Ben and our grandchildren Madison & Jesse, In that time we spent 5 days at Broadbeach at the Belle Maison, very spacious and in a great spot, 1 block from the beach and shops and about 4 kilometres from Surfers Paradise.

We travelled to Coolangatta for the Rock & Roll festival on the long weekend which was absolutely packed with people plus 1300 classic cars and fantastic bands playing in the 2 main streets. The festival was very enjoyable with a parade of floats bands and cars, bikes and kids.

Our trip back home was very relaxing travelling from the coastal regions to inland rainforests, we visited a few lighthouses that had fantastic views of the coastline, although to get to the lighthouses we had to walk up very steep driveways, not fun, Rob had to push me up a few times, but it was getting easier after the 3rd Lighthouse.

Since we arrived home it had rained for a week, we were wishing we were still up north enjoying the sunshine.

I will post some pictures as soon as I get some free time.

April Social for Greenacres Disability Services.

On Saturday the 18th April, we had a fabulous social which had a great roll up, all dressed in Black & Pink to raise funds for Greenacres Disability Services.

The social had a set program, with requests and I must say it's amazing how many older dances are still requested at any of the socials we attend

Thanks to all the helpers at the social, without your efforts the social would not run so smoothly.
Thanks also to Shoalhaven Country Line Dancers for their donation of $50 also to Julie Romanofski for her donation of $10 although she could not make the social.

Wednesday after the social, Greenacres Disability Services received a donation of $720 thanks to everyone who came along to the social and donated to this charity.

Rob's 60th Surprise Party

On the 11th April, we had a surprise party for Rob, We had organised the party to be for another friend of ours and Rob willingly helped decorate the hall, he did a great job it looked fantastic, the boys then took Rob up to the pub for a couple of drinks and the girls starting setting up the hall for the big night.

When he arrived he saw lots of people sitting down waiting for him to arrive, he asked me if we were late, because there are a lot of people there, maybe we should have come earlier, this was the time we were told to arrive, when he walked in everyone shouted surprise, he was gobsmacked, lost for words and quite emotional when he saw family & close friends.

We had Stan the man for our entertainment, he did a brilliant job as MC as well, thanks Stan for a great night of dancing.

The Cake, that Karen made, beautiful work

Rob & Leanne
The line dancer put on a bit of a show for Rob, we did a dance called Tick Tock Two, we had a paper plate over our faces that was supposed to look like a clock, with a big 60 at the top.

Fifo group
Thanks you all for coming along and making Rob's night so special, one he will never forget. We had family & friends travel down from Sydney, and a few work mates from the past to help celebrate his big day.

Easter Parade

Is it me or are the months flying by, here we are in April, Easter has come & gone, unfortunately we had to pull out of the Easter Parade this year due to the bad weather. It was unfortunate as we had some of the children mainly grandkids, that were very excited to be riding on the truck and throwing Easter eggs to everyone.

It would not have been very pleasant trying to decorate the truck in rainy weather also the metal flooring would have been slippery, so the decision was made by Carol to pull out. Good call Carol.

I had my family come down from Brisbane at the end of March. It was lovely having them down for 3 weeks, we went to different parks around the area, to keep the kids occupied.

Needless to say I was not able to learn any new dances for the classes, so I taught a few old dances that I knew well, to keep everyone happy.

Homebush Ball 28th March 2015

We had 2 car loads of people heading to Homebush for a long night of dancing, Geoff McGowan & Myself were the drivers, with Jenny, Gina, Sonja, Kerry, Brenda & Margaret,  we might try for the bus next year if we have more than 8 travelling to the Ball.

Missing Brenda in this photo
What a fabulous night of dancing, we managed to learn a lot of the dances that were on the list, a great selection of hard, easy, new & old dances, when we didn't dance we would catch up with our line dancing friends from Sydney, Canberra and Queensland otherwise there was a bit of shopping to do (shoes, jewellery, clothing etc).

Thanks for coming along this year guys, it wouldn't be fun if you were not there.

Looking forward to the Homebush social this year with 12 attending from Shoalhaven Country Line Dancers. We have hired a bus with Geoff driving this time, thank you Geoff much appreciated.

2015

Another year has come and gone and already the calendar for 2015 is starting to fill up with socials and activities.

December last year had all the Xmas Socials, with my Xmas Social at the end of November,  Milton Xmas Party, Huskisson Xmas Party, SCLD Xmas Party.

Jervis Bay 2 hour Cruise to finish the year was perfect, with perfect weather, plenty of dolphins and a lovely lunch in the park with great friends.

Everyone enjoyed the cruise in December so much, that another one has been organised for the 28th February for a Sunset Cruise from 6pm-8pm.

We started classes on the 11th January 2015, already dances have been taught that will be done at Homebush Ball in March, these can be viewed on the right hand side of the blog site.

Welcome to all the new beginners, I hope you enjoy the fun of learning new dances, with the great benefits that come with the classes, such as gentle exercise, meeting new friends, holidaying with friends or just socialising with new friends and listening to great music from all genres.

Looking forward to another fun filled year with friends and family.
